The intestinal microbiota consists of about 1,000 different types of bacteria. They are essential for digestion, vitamin synthesis and amino acids, and for strengthening the immune system. Every human being has an individual composition of intestinal bacteria, which already forms in infancy and later develops in accordance with eating habits. The microbiota can be classified according to diversity, dysbiosis and enterotype. In addition, risks for the development of civilisation diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, inflammatory intestinal diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, as well as cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric diseases can be derived from the presence of certain bacterial strains.
