History

Dr. med. Ralf Kirkamm, a laboratory medicine specialist, open the GANZIMMUN Institute for Holistic Immunology and Naturopathy [GANZIMMUN Institut für ganzheitliche Immunologie und Naturheilkunde AG] laboratory in Mainz-Bretzenheim together with three employees on 1 October 1998.  The focus was placed on immunological and microbiological diagnostics. Doctors and naturopaths submitting samples very frequently requested microbiological stool analysis. The focus was placed on the "holistic" approach to patient care during analysis and diagnosis.

With a total of 24 employees, the laboratory expanded into allergy and hormone diagnostics and immunodiagnostics, fields of complementary medicine, as well as molecular biology. Further growth was achieved by offering nationwide continuing medical education.

By now, the company consisted of 64 employees processing just under 4000 samples a month, who together achieved new milestones at the beginning of the year: Establishment of a marketing team, as well as nationwide sales representatives. This resulted in the creation of the GANZIMMUN website and numerous marketing materials for medical practices. Vitamin and trace element diagnostics, as well as the measurement of oxidative stress, were added to our offering in terms of analytics.

Our highly committed and service-oriented team of 110 employees was expanded to include dietary advice. The specialist continuing medical education and marketing activities were intensified. In summer 2004, the company unveiled its new colours and innovative name:

Innovative pathways as a trademark

After establishing a comprehensive range of complimentary medical services, the decision was made to expand into standard diagnostics. This was accomplished with (one) of the first "automation streets” by Siemens Healthcare in Germany. The transportation service was initially set up with 4 routes and 8 drivers as a result of a dramatic increase in sample submissions from statutory health insurance doctors. GANZIMMUN not only expanded regionally, but even globally.

The GANZIMMUN Academy was founded to present the innovative range of services and engage in continuing medical education of doctors and clinicians. In addition to the highly valued, in-person education, we were able to offer the first certified online continuing medical education at an international scale by building our own film studio.

The laboratory was granted DAkkS accreditation in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 15189:2007 in May 2010. GANZIMMUN Diagnostics GmbH is also accredited as a testing laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 in 2013 for tests in the area of pharmaceuticals and active substances, investigations in accordance with the Drinking Water Ordinance and sampling of untreated and drinking water. A special portfolio was also developed for dentists. The electronic laboratory management system 2D-connect® was introduced as a particularly innovative service tool for digital processing of laboratory orders.

Dr. med. Patrik Zickgraf, a laboratory medicine specialist, assumed leadership of the laboratory with its 320 employees on 1 October 2018. The transportation service in the Rhine-Main region grew to more than 16 routes serving 200 to 300 practices per day. During this year, the number of laboratory orders exceeded 800,000.

The planning phase for a new building on the Lerchenberg in Mainz was initiated. The coronavirus pandemic resulted in the implementation of comprehensive diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2, as well as the introduction of the coronavirus testing station (until January 2023).

The new building for GANZIMMUN Diagnostics on the Lerchenberg in Mainz was constructed under the supervision of Karrié Projektentwicklung GmbH & Co. KG. "Unfortunately, the premises in Mainz-Bretzenheim became much too small for us over the years. Now with 7000 m² for laboratories, offices and medical practices, we will have enough space to design the future. We expect to be able to occupy the new building in the second quarter of 2023," explained Dr. Patrik Zickgraf, the Chief Executive Officer of GANZIMMUN Diagnostics.

The GANZIMMUN Diagnostics GmbH company, which was previously located in Mainz Bretzenheim, is expanding. The new location is currently being built on Lerchenberg. After laying the foundation stone in July 2022, the topping-out ceremony can now be celebrated. The completion of the project is planned for the year 2024.
